When should you use it?
When it's not a 999 emergency, but you need help fast.
What is 111?
It's a nationwide NHS telephone number that helps make it easier for you to access local health services. If you live in, or are visiting Hampshire, Portsmouth or Southampton you can now call 111 when you need medical help fast, but it's not a 999 emergency. The nurse or helpline operator will also have details of health information services.
For life-threatening medical emergencies you should continue to call 999
